A Retirement home of Distinction.
Welcome to the Durand Residence Web Site
Durand Residence is located in one of Hamilton’s most exclusive heritage neighborhoods. The area takes its name from Colonel James Durand, a soldier in the war of 1812, who became a wealthy merchant, entrepreneur and influential politician. Situated at the foot of the Niagara Escarpment, Durand Residence is surrounded by tree-lined streets and buildings of historical and architectural importance. In the early 20th Century, members of the professional class and captains of industry, finance and commerce were attracted to this prestigious neighborhood to build their stately mansions.
Tucked into the midst of this neighborhood’s grandeur is our cozy, low-rise home for seniors. It opened in 1982 under the ownership of Doreen and Fritz Steller. Today, their daughter Madelaine Steller-Cain, a registered nurse, carries on the family tradition in her role as administrator.
Our dedicated and caring staff offer a nurturing environment for all residents. Durand is an approved member of ORCA (Ontario Retirement Communities Association). We are located just steps from the renowned St. Joseph’s Healthcare. Minutes away there are many fine restaurants, shops, parks, golf courses, churches and the Bruce Trail. Transportation links to the city are at our doorstep.
